The number of styles and combinations of dresses available are endless and each designer or store has enough styles to keep us staggered. So how do we dictate what is good? Firstly, when we are searching for products, we want one that does it all. When we buy a new cell phone, we want one with a good camera, 4G capability, and a super fast processor. Chances are we wouldn't sacrifice any one of those features. The same applies for dresses.
One thing that we should learn to avoid doing is purchasing what the media tells us to purchase. I have grew up thinking Bose audio products was at the peak of audio technology. After some research, I've learned that there are many other options out there for a product that produces better audio quality, AND for a better price! Why the heck would I pay for Bose? Price does not dictate the quality of a product, but most of us associate price with quality.
When it comes down to dresses, the same would apply. You pay for the quality and the style of the product. Generally, big designer's designs are more commonly worn which takes the uniqueness away from it for the person who actually purchases and wears it. In terms of uniqueness, if you have a keen eye for fashion, you'll be able to find uniqueness in many places. One of my favorite places to shop for dresses are small dress boutiques or online boutiques. They offer dresses that are unique and usually at a lower price than most big retailers. So if the dresses look great, and the composition of materials are toe to toe, then anyone would pay for the one that costs less.
There was this one time I found a really lovely little black dress from Macy's, was it unique? Somewhat, but I'm sure I'd be more likely to run into someone wearing the same dress one day. The material? Same as all the other boutique stores I've gone to, sure the Macy's atmosphere is much more lively and lighting might've been better. The price tag? $138. I've went to multiple boutiques during the time, searching for a nice dress for a girl's night out. Most of them were $40 - $60 ! So these retailers are charging over 100% more, they're literally robbing us.
Okay, so price and quality are two factors that need to be balanced. What about style? What makes a style suitable for you? Instead of looking for a dress that looks great on a mannequin, you need to factor in your body figure. We want to find a dress that flatters our curves and the features of our body. There is a lot of information on the web on what type of dresses suit what types of body types, but here's an example regardless: Evening dresses, which are long dresses that usually drops below the ankle are best for tall and slim figures.
